Intern Opportunities Summer 2010

I’m looking for two college interns for David J. Anderson & Associates this summer.

The first position is to help with some software engineering process research and would specifically suit a masters or Ph.D level student in software engineering. Specifically I want the intern to mine available academic/industry databases with the intent of showing a correlation between defect rates (and failure load) and lead time through initial development. I will provide introductions to sources of this data. The outcome should be one or more academic papers that may become fundamental reference material for Lean software development and software engineering in general.

The second position is a content management / technical writing / information systems project to port my legacy uidesign.net web site to a modern content management system. It is currently raw html created in Dreamweaver version 2.0. The follow up work will involve working with Janice Linden-Reed (kanban101.com) to select the best material from the site and edit it into a book to be published in fall or winter.

Ideally, I’d like the intern to locate on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State for the summer close to my home near Port Angeles, Washington. However, remote working may be possible.

If you are interested in either position or know someone who might be, please drop me an email.

ASQ Seattle Kanban and High Maturity

I’m presenting my SEPG North America 2009 tutorial on Kanban and the accelerated emergence of high maturity behavior (aka CMMI ML4 & ML5) at the American Society for Quality Seattle Chapter this Thursday evening. Registration with dinner costs $25.

If you are in the Seattle area, this may be the only opportunity to see me give a talk this year. I hope to see some blog readers there!

This event is significant for me as it’s the first time I’ve been back to the ASQ Seattle since I presented in October 2004 - the night I met Dragos Dumitriu from Microsoft - a meeting that led directly to the development of the Kanban approach and the entire movement around limiting WIP, visualizing workflow and making process policies explicit.

I wonder what will happen this time?
